Ngaio Crofton Downs Residents Association promotes the interests of the Ngaio and Crofton Downs communities and the natural environment. We aim to foster healthy public spirit; promote improvement, beautification and development; and advocate for the Ngaio and Crofton Downs communities.<\/p>\n
The Association was founded in the 1920s as the Ngaio Progressive Association and revived in the 1980s. In 2012 we voted to change our name to the Ngaio Crofton Downs Residents Association to better reflect our purpose.<\/p>\n
We meet on the first Wednesday of every month at 7.30 in the Ngaio Town Hall Drop-In Centre, and residents are welcome to attend these meetings.<\/p>\n
We are an incorporated society with a formal constitution. The committee is elected at our AGM in October each year. Our current president is Ian Turk (04 939 8441, info@ngaio.org.nz).<\/p>\n
Conservation and beautification<\/strong><\/p>\n We have planted native trees, grasses and other plants in public areas, and extended public walkways through parks and reserves so that residents and visitors may enjoy these areas.<\/p>\n We erected the NGAIO signs at the approaches to the suburb, and installed a sculpture in Cummings Park.<\/p>\n Since the 1980s, we have held annual community get-togethers and events including picnics, films evenings and meetings. We have hosted \u2018meet the candidates\u2019 meetings for local and national elections and encouraged members of the community to come along. We have also helped other community organisations apply for funding to further their works.<\/p>\n We are committed to keeping our suburb clean and welcoming. We hold regular inorganic rubbish drives and report faults in street infrastructure to the Council for repair. We have also supported residents when dealing with the Council on issues such as noise control.
