In the first stage we plan to collect plastic &amp; metal lids, oral care, stationery, razors, wools, curtains and batteries, which we feed in to the recycling programmes which are managed by the Sustainabililty Trust.<\/p>\n<p>People are also interested in how we deal with the collections and what happens to them after they are dropped off. Here are answers to\u00a0 those questions.<\/p>\n<p>Ngaio Crofton Down Ngaio Crofton Downs Going Carbon Neutral recycling programme is partnering with the Sustainability Trust (<a href=\"https:\/\/sustaintrust.org.nz\/\">https:\/\/sustaintrust.org.nz\/<\/a>). We will deliver our collections to the Trust, then they make sure everything is recycled in the right way.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/metalandplasticlid800x600.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1167\" src=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/metalandplasticlid800x600.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"98\" height=\"73\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/metalandplasticlid800x600.png 500w, https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/metalandplasticlid800x600-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 98px) 100vw, 98px\" \/><\/a>Plastic &amp; metal lids<\/strong> \u2013 The Sustainability Trust has partnered up with McAuley Metals (https:\/\/www.macaulaymetals.co.nz\/) &amp; The Tiny Plastic Factory (https:\/\/www.thetinyplasticfactory.co.nz\/). McAuley Metals is the largest scrap metal recyclers in New Zealand, and they will collect the metal lids. The Tiny Plastic Factory will collect the plastic lids and process it into quality recycled plastic feedstock for manufacturers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Oral care<\/strong> \u2013 The recycled oral care items will come to the Colgate and Terraycle Oral Care Recycling Programme, organised by Colgate and TerraCycle (https:\/\/www.terracyclcom\/en-NZ\/), through the Sustainability Trust. Once collected, the oral waste is cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remolded to make new recycled products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1165\" src=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"78\" height=\"78\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/8.jpg 500w, https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/8-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/8-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 78px) 100vw, 78px\" \/><\/a>Stationery<\/strong> \u2013 The recycled stationeries will come to the Bic Writing Instruments Recycling Programme, organised by BIC and Terracycle, through the Sustainability Trust. Once collected, the writing instruments are separated by material composition, cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remolded to make new recycled products.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/terracycle-razor-recycling.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1166\" src=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/terracycle-razor-recycling.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"73\" height=\"73\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/terracycle-razor-recycling.png 500w, https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/terracycle-razor-recycling-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/terracycle-razor-recycling-300x300.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 73px) 100vw, 73px\" \/><\/a>Razors<\/strong> \u2013 The recycled razors will come to the Gillette Razor Recycling Programme, organised by Gillette and TerraCycle, through the Sustainability Trust. Once collected, the blades, razors, and plastic packaging are cleaned and separated by material. Metals are smelted into ingots for reuse, and plastics are melted down and turned into pellets, flakes, and other usable formats that can be remoulded to make new recycled products, such as park benches and picnic tables.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Craftyvolunteers800x800.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1163\" src=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Craftyvolunteers800x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"71\" height=\"70\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Craftyvolunteers800x800.jpg 500w, https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Craftyvolunteers800x800-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Craftyvolunteers800x800-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 71px) 100vw, 71px\" \/><\/a>Wools<\/strong> \u2013 The Sustainability Trust will deliver the wools to Crafty Volunteers (https:\/\/craftyvolunteers.com\/) who connects people who knit, crochet and sew for charity, to reuse the wools to make new products.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/wellington-curtain-bank.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1162\" src=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/wellington-curtain-bank.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"71\" height=\"71\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/wellington-curtain-bank.jpg 500w, https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/wellington-curtain-bank-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/ngaio.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/wellington-curtain-bank-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 71px) 100vw, 71px\" \/><\/a>Curtains<\/strong> \u2013 The curtain bank programme, held by the Sustainability Trust, will upcycle the curtains into new ones for families in need. Once collected, they will be remade and given to families with a need in the Wellington Region.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Batteries<\/strong> \u2013 Batteries are one of the types of e-waste that the Sustainability Trust accepts. The Trust works with trusted partners to dispose of the e-waste correctly.
