To the Place Planning Team,
I am a local resident who lives in [your suburb] and are submitting of the draft District Plan.
While I love our city and support initiatives to enhance our indigenous biodiversity, I do not support the Council’s intention to create SNAs on private urban land in the District Plan. The small SNA land contribution from this large group of private landowners does not warrant further investment of Council resources.
That said, if SNAs do remain the rules being proposed in the draft District Plan are not workable for private urban landowners. Private landowners must be permitted to trim native trees on SNA land as required to protect daylight and view shafts so they can provide for their social well-being, without seeking consent from Council.
Furthermore, the Council’s proposed resource consent and ecological assessment requirements for SNA land are onerous. Seeking resource consent should only be required for activities that would currently require consent. Private landowners should be permitted to continue doing simple activities without involving Council.
In conclusion I do not support the creation of SNAs on private urban land in the draft District Plan and do not support the inclusion of the SNA rules as written.
