Stormwater Management Impact on the Kaiwharawhara Stream

This is just in from Cat Ayres Project Lead – Kia Mouriora te Kaiwharawhara Sanctuary to Sea, who is drawing our attention to the draft Stormwater Management Strategy, which will have an impact on the Kaiwharawhara Stream. The Kaiwharawhara Stream runs through Trelissick park, and is a gem for our area. More information and ideas on how to become involved are below.

From Cat:- As members of the Sanctuary to Sea Community network, we wanted to highlight that Wellington Water are currently running a feedback process for their draft Stormwater Management Strategy. For those of you who haven’t heard about this process yet, it will be closing at the end of February.

This strategy will be used to prioritise stormwater work across the Wellington region over the coming decades. It will have a significant impact on the Kaiwharawhara, which has been prioritised as 8th out of 9 catchments (p.98) in Wellington City.

You can engage through attending online or in-person hui next week, completing a survey or emailing your feedback (more information here). The hui are no longer showing online but you should be able to join by emailing stormwater@wellingtonwater.co.nz. I have also included details for Tuesday’s zoom meeting at the bottom of this email.

We are working on our submission, which will highlight our concerns for the Kaiwharawhara. Please get in touch if you would like to share your thoughts for us to incorporate, or if you would like to receive details of the submission in order to include this in your own feedback.

Thank you in advance for any support you are able to provide.

Ngā mihi
