Ngaio Gorge Update

Wellington City Council (WCC) advise that they completed receiving  registrations of interest from  contractors which are interested in completng the work on the Ngaio Gorge Road. Request For Tender (RFT) documentation has been sent with the deadline for tenders to come back in being January 14th, 2020. The target for starting physical works being March 2020.
Physical works to build retaining walls, widen and realign the road, drainage, slope stabilisation, protection fences, and associated works are expected to take two years.

Over this time  temporary traffic management measures will be required.  The Ngaio Gorge Road can remain open throughout the project, but at times will be down to one lane, controlled by traffic signals and manual stop-go traffic management as required.

This is a key resilience route so WCC has designed the project to keep the road open and minimise the impact on peoples’ journeys while maintaining a safe work environment for crews to work.
WCC has applied for and obtained consents for the work from GWRC, WCC, and DoC (wildlife permit).
WCC have expressed their thanks to users for your understanding as they work to improve the road networks in your city.
