District Plan Changes that affect us

At its 23 June meeting when it approved the District Plan that will be notified, the Planning and Environment Committee voted in two changes which are both significant for Ngaio and Crofton Downs.

SNA’s The good news is that SNAs on urban residential land are not included in the Proposed District Plan that is notified. Instead, these are delayed for a year or so until after the Ministry for the Environment finalizes and gazettes the National Policy Statement for Indigenous Biodiversity. SNAs on rural and public land remain in the district plan.

In the meantime, a plan to compensate landowners – potentially with rates relief – will be developed.

Johnsonville Railway Line: At the same meeting councillors voted to remove the Johnsonville Line from the list of Rapid Transit lines. this means that the walking catchments will be removed from around the Johnsonville Line stations, within which the District plan would have been required to enable buildings up to 6 stories high. Whether you are for or against the catchments and their impacts, this is a significant change.
